3R – Miss Roper

Welcome to Year 3

I would like to welcome you to year 3. It is a very important year in many ways as children move up to the key stage two curriculum and develop increasing independence. We look forward to working with your children and guiding them to be the best that they can be.

Year 3 children build upon the crucial knowledge previously learnt though a varied and interesting curriculum. They experience lots of new things whilst applying the knowledge and skills they already have.

Reading

Now the children are in year 3, we expect them to read most days for 10-15 minutes, and this should be recorded in their reading diaries at least 3 times. This can be the school (scheme) reading book, another school book (such as a school library book) or their own choice of reading material. The reason we give this such importance is that reading is an essential life skill which opens up all other areas of learning.

Home learning

Home learning is always given out on a Monday and should be returned (complete) by Thursday. There will always be a maths activity with a focus on recall of prior learning and spellings to be completed and practised ready for a short test on Friday.

PE

Children will have PE once a week on a Monday and they can continue to come to school in their PE uniform on this day.
Please make sure that children have the correct uniform for PE – the school PE top, black shorts or jogging bottoms and pumps or trainers.
